Notes
Recorded in Crespi's diary: the expedition rested at this camp "since it was that of the patron of our Spain" (the feast of Santiago), "and we two priests celebrated the holy sacrifice of the Mass." Crespi named the site San Francisco Solano as a possible future mission location. Bolton's editorial footnote identifies it as Alisos Creek, near El Toro, Orange County. A second Mass was said at the same camp the next day (July 26) before the expedition moved on; only the earlier, first-at-this-place date is submitted here.
