Notes

Per Gilbert J. Garraghan, S.J., "Catholic First Things in the United States" (Mid-America, 1939), Father Sedeño, S.J. is credited with repeatedly saying Mass in the Guale mission province on the Georgia coast, 1569-1571. Supporting detail: the New Georgia Encyclopedia's Spanish Missions article independently confirms Jesuit missionary activity in Guale, 1568-1570, before the Franciscans took over the mission field. No single site within Guale (which spanned several coastal mission towns) is specified.Note that this inferred Jesuit mass in 1569 is earlier than the Franciscan effort among the same people that resulted in the "Georgian Martrys" of 1597.
