Notes
This plaque commemorates the first Mass in what is now West Virginia August 13, 1749, and the establishment of the Catholic Diocese of Wheeling July 19, 1850. Thought the marker doesn't mention it, Fr. Joseph Pierre de Bonnecamp, S.J. was the only priest in this area at this time and was part of the de Blainville Expedition.
