Notes

Fr Claude Allouez, one of the legendary Jesuits of the Great Lakes region, is said to have baptized 10,000 natives by his own hand and preached the gospel to some 20 tribes in mid to late 17th century in what was then New France. "The Holy Sacrifice of Mass was first offered in this vicinity by Father Claude Allouez S.J. April 20, 1670" signage at the site indicates.
